This composition divides the canvas into two contrasting registers of memory and presence. On the left, a solitary standing figure is rendered in deep, weathered browns, the body built up through heavy impasto and carved, sculptural modeling that gives it the worn, eroded quality of an old relief or an ageing wall. The figure's arm is raised behind the head in a gesture that reads as both weariness and self protection, while a faint grid of dark squares behind it suggests a screen, a window, or the fabric of a crumbling urban structure pressing in from outside.

To the right, the palette shifts into pale greys and bone whites, where architectural fragments, an arched niche, patterned brickwork, and a second, more schematic head appear layered as if excavated from the same wall. The drawing here is looser and more linear, closer to sketch than sculpture, and creates a sense of fragmented recollection rather than solid form.

Painted in the earthy, restrained tonality that runs through Dutta Ray's later work, the canvas holds the two halves in unresolved tension, an encounter between a present, embodied figure and the layered, half remembered architecture of the city around it, suggesting alienation and endurance within a single, weathered surface.
