Year: 2000

This vibrant abstract painting by Manu Parekh invites viewers into a richly textured and dynamic interpretation of a natural landscape, where the familiar elements of trees and floral motifs dissolve into a powerful interplay of color, form, and emotion. Dominated by deep blacks and dark browns, the composition conjures a dense, almost primordial forest space, with shapes that intertwine and overlap to create a complex tapestry of shadow and structure. These dark tones serve as the grounding base, evoking the quiet mystery and depth of nature’s undergrowth.

Against this somber backdrop, areas of bright, fiery colors emerge with striking contrast—fiery reds, vivid oranges, golden yellows, and subtle hints of greens and purples punctuate the canvas like bursts of energy or sparks of light. These colors are not just decorative accents; they seem to breathe life into the scene, suggesting the presence of an intense, perhaps even elemental, force such as fire or sunlight piercing through the canopy. The juxtaposition of light and dark here plays with notions of concealment and revelation, evoking the cyclical rhythms of destruction and renewal that characterize the natural world.

Parekh’s brushwork is bold and expressive, reflecting an immediacy and rawness in his approach. The paint is applied with a vigorous hand, layers building texture and depth, inviting viewers to appreciate not only the visual composition but also the physicality of the medium itself. The rough textures and visible layering resist smoothness or polish, instead celebrating the materiality of paint and the artist’s gesture. This tactile quality enhances the painting’s emotional impact, drawing the viewer closer to the artist’s process and intention.

Far from a literal representation, the landscape here is abstracted into a symbolic, almost dreamlike realm. Forms are distorted and merged, allowing the natural world to be perceived through the lens of imagination and feeling. This transformation challenges viewers to look beyond the surface and explore the painting’s deeper narrative, a meditation on nature’s beauty, power, and fragility. Manu Parekh’s work thus becomes a vivid visual poem, where color, form, and texture coalesce to evoke an immersive, transcendent experience.

Why Choose Us

Art has always, naturally, reflected the development and exploration of different thoughts and perceptions, and our current postmodern era is no different. It is interesting to see how art has evolved visually, yet the traditional methods of composing art remain a valid means of expression.

All it takes for an artist to rise above normalcy, is inspiration, which fuels his passion to paint beautiful creations throughout his life.
The valuable expression of art is always there with us, but now this expression is yet to take an interesting diversion with our art gallery, Gallery Silver Scapes, located in Hauz Khas Enclave. Art is no longer considered just decorative but has evolved and come forth as a major form of investment yielding high rates of returns for its buyers, making it an expression commonly used.

Mrs Mayor was walked into the art world by the legendary modernist Bimal Das Gupta, one of whose biggest collections remains with Gallery Silver Scapes. In the 1980s, as head and first curator of the Habiart Gallery founded by Mrs Rekha Modi — a childhood friend — Mrs Mayor worked closely with and curated shows for renowned artists such as A Ramachandran, GR Santosh, Rameshwar Broota, Sakti Burman, MK Bardhan, Dhiraj Chaudhury, M Sivanesan, and Arup Das among others.

Besides modern masters, she also worked with young contemporaries such as Sudip Roy, Paresh Maity, Subroto Kundu, Vinod Sharma, and many more. Artworks commissioned by her are now part of prestigious collections, such as those of the India Habitat Centre, Ranbaxy, Pepsi, Hotel Lalit, Bank of America, and many more private and public collections.
