Among Shahabuddin Ahmed's celebrated body of work, Posing stands as a compelling demonstration of his mastery over the human figure and his distinctive visual language. Unlike his dynamic compositions of running freedom fighters, this work embraces stillness, presenting a solitary figure poised against a dark, atmospheric background. The restrained posture conceals an underlying intensity, transforming a seemingly quiet moment into one charged with psychological depth and emotional presence.

Executed in Shahabuddin's signature style, the figure is modelled with expressive, sweeping brushstrokes and rich impasto, revealing the artist's extraordinary understanding of anatomy. Every contour of the body is rendered with remarkable precision, while the textured surface infuses the painting with movement and vitality. The monochromatic backdrop isolates the figure, allowing it to emerge dramatically from the surrounding darkness, a hallmark of Shahabuddin's compositions that reflects the influence of European masters while remaining deeply rooted in his own artistic vision.

Throughout his career, Shahabuddin has explored themes of resilience, dignity, and the enduring strength of humanity, shaped by his experiences as a freedom fighter during the Bangladesh Liberation War. Although Posing departs from overt narratives of conflict, it retains the same psychological intensity that defines his oeuvre. The solitary figure becomes a symbol of quiet confidence, contemplation, and inner resolve rather than physical action.

Balancing realism with expressive abstraction, Posing exemplifies Shahabuddin Ahmed's ability to elevate the human form beyond portraiture into a universal expression of endurance and spirit. It is a powerful testament to his enduring contribution to South Asian modern art, where technical brilliance and emotional resonance coexist in perfect harmony.

Why Choose Us

Art has always, naturally, reflected the development and exploration of different thoughts and perceptions, and our current postmodern era is no different. It is interesting to see how art has evolved visually, yet the traditional methods of composing art remain a valid means of expression.

All it takes for an artist to rise above normalcy, is inspiration, which fuels his passion to paint beautiful creations throughout his life.
The valuable expression of art is always there with us, but now this expression is yet to take an interesting diversion with our art gallery, Gallery Silver Scapes, located in Hauz Khas Enclave. Art is no longer considered just decorative but has evolved and come forth as a major form of investment yielding high rates of returns for its buyers, making it an expression commonly used.

Mrs Mayor was walked into the art world by the legendary modernist Bimal Das Gupta, one of whose biggest collections remains with Gallery Silver Scapes. In the 1980s, as head and first curator of the Habiart Gallery founded by Mrs Rekha Modi — a childhood friend — Mrs Mayor worked closely with and curated shows for renowned artists such as A Ramachandran, GR Santosh, Rameshwar Broota, Sakti Burman, MK Bardhan, Dhiraj Chaudhury, M Sivanesan, and Arup Das among others.

Besides modern masters, she also worked with young contemporaries such as Sudip Roy, Paresh Maity, Subroto Kundu, Vinod Sharma, and many more. Artworks commissioned by her are now part of prestigious collections, such as those of the India Habitat Centre, Ranbaxy, Pepsi, Hotel Lalit, Bank of America, and many more private and public collections.
