Artist: Shuvaprasanna
Medium: Oil on Canvas
Size: 30 × 20 inches (76.2 × 50.8 cm)

Emanating a quiet intensity, this vertical abstract composition unfolds through a harmonious interplay of form, texture, and tonal variation. The canvas is dominated by a subdued palette of browns, olive greens, and beiges, earth tones that lend the work an organic sensibility and a contemplative mood. The surface is richly textured, suggesting either multiple layers of paint or an intentionally coarse canvas, which contributes to the painting’s tactile and visual complexity.

Centrally positioned, an elongated vertical form, reminiscent of a tower, obelisk, or architectural structure, divides the composition with commanding presence. This monolithic shape is neither clearly defined nor rigid in its boundaries; rather, it merges subtly with the surrounding ground through modulations of color and shifting patterns. Within and around this central form, the artist introduces a constellation of irregular markings and subtle chromatic shifts that deepen the sense of layered abstraction.

Scattered rhythmically throughout the composition, small square motifs punctuate the surface with quiet precision. These geometric inclusions function as formal anchors within the abstract field, introducing a visual cadence and evoking architectural or symbolic references, windows, openings, or coded elements, that further enrich the painting’s narrative ambiguity. The outer edges of the canvas are rendered in darker tonalities, creating a peripheral frame that intensifies the luminous quality of the central axis. This contrast draws the viewer’s gaze inward, encouraging a meditative engagement with the internal landscape of the work. The gradual movement from shadow to light enhances the depth of field, transforming the flat canvas into a spatially evocative surface.

Stylistically, the painting aligns with the traditions of minimalist abstraction and post-war modernist sensibilities. Its emphasis on structure, materiality, and tonal restraint echoes the practices of artists invested in the phenomenology of space and surface. The subtlety of form and the restraint of palette speak to a refined visual language, one that privileges ambiguity and contemplation over narrative specificity. This artwork is not a depiction but an evocation, an invitation into a silent architectural reverie. Through its carefully constructed layers and modulated textures, it conjures an abstracted monumentality, where form dissolves into suggestion, and surface becomes a site of immersive visual meditation.

Why Choose Us

Art has always, naturally, reflected the development and exploration of different thoughts and perceptions, and our current postmodern era is no different. It is interesting to see how art has evolved visually, yet the traditional methods of composing art remain a valid means of expression.

All it takes for an artist to rise above normalcy, is inspiration, which fuels his passion to paint beautiful creations throughout his life.
The valuable expression of art is always there with us, but now this expression is yet to take an interesting diversion with our art gallery, Gallery Silver Scapes, located in Hauz Khas Enclave. Art is no longer considered just decorative but has evolved and come forth as a major form of investment yielding high rates of returns for its buyers, making it an expression commonly used.

Mrs Mayor was walked into the art world by the legendary modernist Bimal Das Gupta, one of whose biggest collections remains with Gallery Silver Scapes. In the 1980s, as head and first curator of the Habiart Gallery founded by Mrs Rekha Modi — a childhood friend — Mrs Mayor worked closely with and curated shows for renowned artists such as A Ramachandran, GR Santosh, Rameshwar Broota, Sakti Burman, MK Bardhan, Dhiraj Chaudhury, M Sivanesan, and Arup Das among others.

Besides modern masters, she also worked with young contemporaries such as Sudip Roy, Paresh Maity, Subroto Kundu, Vinod Sharma, and many more. Artworks commissioned by her are now part of prestigious collections, such as those of the India Habitat Centre, Ranbaxy, Pepsi, Hotel Lalit, Bank of America, and many more private and public collections.
