Shuvaprasanna, a multifaceted artist, was born in 1947 and studied art at the Indian College of Art in Calcutta. With a career spanning over four decades, he has made significant  contributions as a graphic artist, painter, educator, writer, and art activist. His work often reflects the urban landscape of Calcutta, exploring themes of existential agony, survival, and joy.

Shuvaprasanna's artistic style is characterized by vibrant hues, textural use of gold and silver foil, and experimentation with various media, including graphics, oil on canvas, drawings, charcoal, and mixed media. His passion flowers series, with its subtle erotic undertones, and divinities series, featuring iconic figures like Durga and Krishna, showcase his creative breakthrough.
